Pearsall Library is a valuable resource for area residents. The library is open to the public during regular library hours, and area residents may use the library as long as they respect library rules and conduct themselves in a manner that respects the rights of library staff and other library users. Public borrowers should understand that the library's primary mission is to serve the students, faculty, and staff of North Carolina Wesleyan University. North Carolina Wesleyan University students, faculty, and staff always have priority. Library staff will assist public users if this service does not interfere with the staff's obligations to support the Wesleyan community. The library reserves the right to deny or revoke privileges to public borrowers for any reason, but in particular for disruptive behavior, inappropriate use of library resources, or excessive late return or loss of materials.
- Free borrowing and limited computer use privileges are available to:
- Public users who 18 years of age or older
- Retired North Carolina Wesleyan University faculty and staff members
- NCWU former students who have received their diploma and whose library accounts are in good standing. Alumni may use library computers according to the policies governing other public borrowers.
- Library computers may be used by public borrowers according to the rules defined by the library's Computer and Internet Use Policy. The policy limits public borrowers and alumni to one session of up to 2 hours of computer use per day during the fall and spring semesters. Printing costs are $.10 per page for black and white, $.30 per page for color.
- Books are checked out for 3 weeks and may be renewed twice. DVDs are checked out for 3 nights and may be renewed once. Public borrowers are limited to no more than 5 items on loan at one time and no more that 3 DVDs at one time. Public borrowers are responsible for replacement costs and processing fees for lost materials.
- To obtain a membership, an individual must present a valid North Carolina driver's license or identification card with the current mailing address. If the individual does not have a valid NC driver's license or ID card, another current photo ID may be substituted. If the license or ID does not show the current address, the individual may present (with the license or photo ID) two items of mail showing the individual's name and current mailing address. Public borrowers are expected to keep the library informed of their current telephone number, mailing address, and email address.
The library has reciprocal agreements with Nash Community College and East Carolina University which allow their students to use the Pearsall Library. These students must provide appropriate photo IDs and current information including address, telephone numbers, and email addresses to obtain borrower cards. Participating students are expected to abide by all rules of the library and to pay any fees for lost materials.
