NCWU Pearsall Library Policies

Conduct Policy

The library tries to provide welcoming, comfortable, and safe environments that encourage learning for all users. All library users are expected to honor the rules of the library and to conduct themselves in a manner that respects the rights of library staff and other library users, including the right to be free from harassment, intimidation, and threats to their safety and well-being. Rules of behavior have been adopted to assure the comfort and protection of library users and staff. Library staff members are responsible for enforcing discipline within the library and will determine when behavior is inappropriate in the library according to these rules. Library staff will courteously but firmly enforce the rules of conduct.

Any activity that is illegal, threatening, interferes with the rights or safety of library users or staff, or disrupts the normal functioning of the library is considered disruptive and unacceptable behavior. Such misconduct may result in the privilege to use the library.

Such misconduct includes but is not limited to:

  • Loud and boisterous behavior
  • Harassing others, either verbally or through actions. Harassment may include initiating unwanted conversations, using profanity or other abusive language toward others, staring at others, impeding access to the building, etc.
  • Use of threatening or abusive language or gestures
  • Fighting or engaging in activities that could result in physical, emotional, or mental injury to library users or staff
  • Abusing, misusing, or damaging library facilities, furniture, equipment, or materials
  • Violations of the North Carolina Wesleyan University Network and Computing Policy

Individuals who are fighting or engaging in illegal activities or other behaviors that could represent a physical danger to people or property, will be asked to leave the library immediately. Library staff will call Campus Security who will ask for the individual's student ID or other identification and record name, date, time, and type of incident and escort these individuals from the library.
