The Decree, NCWU's student newspaper, is currently published 5 times each year. In addition to reporting on campus events, The Decree regularly features creative writing – fiction, poetry, personal essays – by students and other members of the university community.
The newspaper was first published in December 1960 without an official name. It appeared for two issues in March and April of 1961 as The Circuit Rider and in the Fall of 1961 for several issues as North Carolina Wesleyan College before being officially named The Wesleyan Decree in the November 8, 1961 issue. In October of 1964, the name was shortened to The Decree.
